I feel for people who don’t have easy access to parts for their old cars, but sometimes reproduction parts aren’t much better than nothing.
Here are two door panels, the original on the left and repro on the right. Notice anything? Like the slots for the retaining clips becoming round holes that the clips don’t fit in? Yeah, it makes it a little difficult to install.

Easi
er to make the hole bigger than move it or make it smaller, but I’ve run into this a good bit. Having a car with zero aftermarket and one with near-100% (the RX7 and the Chevelle) present unique issues to each.

Yep. I’m waiting to hear back from Classic Industries but failing that I’ll be doing my best to carve out the slots. Hopefully without damaging the vinyl. I already had to cut the vinyl clear of the hole since it was folded over the top of half of it.

Is there a specific style of retaining clip that they are trying to force you into switching over to?

Not that I’ve seen. They list the regular stock pieces as accessories.

Found out that the panels were made by Parts Unlimited (PUI) not OER , but your point still stands.
